Rakul Preet Singh (born 10 October 1990) is an Indian film actress and model, who predominantly works in South Indian film industries.

While in college, Rakul did a few modelling assignments and made her acting debut with the 2009 Kannada film Gilli which was a remake of the Tamil film, '7G Rainbow Colony'. In 2011, Rakul participated in the Femina Miss India pageant in which she placed fifth. She was crowned 'Miss India People’s Choice' and won four other pageant titles. In the same year, she starred in a Telugu film Keratam (2011), a critical and commercial failure. The following year, she appeared in the thriller Thadaiyara Thaakka, her first Tamil film release and received critical appreciation for her performance as a TV reporter in the 2013 Tamil drama film Puthagam.

Rakul received praise for portraying the lead female roles in the commercially successful Telugu films Venkatadri Express (2013), Current Theega (2014), and Loukyam (2014). She made her Bollywood debut inYaariyan (2014) in which her performance was better received.

Education:

Rakul did her schooling from Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan and later studied Mathematics at Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi. She has been an active golf player and played nationals.

Career:

She said that she always dreamt of being an actress and began modelling at age 18,going on to enter the Miss India contest in 2011. Apart from the Miss India Poll, Rakul won four subtitles at the pageant including Pantaloons Femina Miss Fresh Face, Femina Miss Talented, Femina Miss Beautiful Smile and Femina Miss Beautiful Eyes.

Debut And Struggles(2009-2013)

Rakul made her film debut with the 2009 Kannada film, Gilli, a remake of Selvaraghavan's 7G Rainbow Colony.She stated that she signed up for her first film "with the aim to earn a little extra pocket money" and that she was unaware "how big south Indian films were".[3] She won critical acclaim for her role in the film before returning to complete her degree and compete in the Miss India pageant.She returned to films in 2011, featuring opposite debutant Siddharth Rajkumar in Keratam, though critics noted that she "got very little screen time".The film was also made in Tamil simultaneously with the same cast but a different director as Yuvan, though the film is yet to release. In 2012, she appeared in a supporting role in the Tamil film Thadaiyara Thaakka. 2013 she was seen in two films, Puthagam in Tamil and Venkatadri Express in Telugu, the latter becoming a commercial success.

Success And Stardom(2014–present)

In 2014, Rakul debuted in a starring role in Bollywood with Divya Kumar's directorial debutYaariyan,after which her third Tamil film Yennamo Yedho released. She was working on four Telugu films simultaneously,which were directed by Sriwaas,Nageshwara Reddy,Srinivas Reddy and Gopichand Malineni, respectively. Sriwaas' Loukyam and G. Nageswara Reddy's Current Theega were her next releases. She received positive reviews for her performances in both films,[19][20] She also has a Hindi film in her hand which is titled as Shimla Mirchi

Currently, she is the lead heroine for Three big projects in Telugu. One is Ravi Teja's Kick 2,which is considered as one of the most awaited movie of the year 2015.Second one is Untitled Ram Charan-Srinu Vaitla Project.And the last one is Untitled Jr.Ntr-Sukumar Project.By winning these three prestigious projects, she emerged herself as a star heroine in Tollywood.Also she is the lead heroine for Mahesh Babu's next film as per the reports.
